Run tests in the background: tray, start with Windows, shut down when done
Long test queues can run without the app's window open. The app can wait in the Windows tray, start with Windows, keep the PC awake while tests run, and shut the PC down when the queue is done.
Plan: every plan.
Keep tests running in the tray
- Start your tests as usual.
- Close the app's window. While tests run or wait, the app keeps going in the Windows tray (the icons by the clock) and keeps the PC awake.
- Point at the tray icon to see how many tests are running or waiting.
- To open the window again, click the tray icon, or right-click it and choose Show.
Start the app with Windows
- Open Settings › Profile and scroll to This PC.
- Turn on Start with Windows. From your next Windows sign-in, the app opens in the tray, so a waiting queue and scheduled reruns (Pro) carry on.

Shut down the PC when the queue finishes
- In Settings › Profile › This PC, turn on Shut down the PC when the queue finishes.
- When the tests running now and those waiting are done, Windows shuts the PC down after one minute, with the note "ATS Backtest Manager: the test queue has finished."
- To stop the shutdown in that minute, press Windows key + R, type
shutdown /aand press Enter.
Good to know
- The shutdown happens once. The switch turns itself off afterwards; turn it on again for the next queue.
- Closing the window when nothing is running or waiting quits the app. Scheduled reruns then wait until the app runs again, so keep it open (or in the tray via Start with Windows) when you rely on them.
- Right-click the tray icon and choose Quit to stop the app. Tests that were running start again from the beginning the next time you open it.
- For the portable ZIP, turn Start with Windows on again after you move the app's folder.
